    :: Bradley Burston, Haaretzin A Special Place in Hell -blogin ylläpitäjä, pitäytyy siinä, minkä hän osaa parhaiten: Länsirannan poliittisen tilanteen monimutkaistamisessa ja Israelin kantaman vastuun vähättelyssä. Burston (huomaa lainauksen viimeinen lause): ”Occupation is an ugly word. That is why people who support the idea of a Jewish state should use the term, and use it often. Because, on this, Israel’s 62nd independence day, the Occupation has to be identified for what it has become: Israel’s worst enemy. Not Iran. Not Hamas or Hezbollah. All three would like to see Israel cease to exist. But our government has tools to fight them. Against the Occupation, though, the government is powerless.”

    :: Kahden valtion ratkaisu määritellään Israelin retoriikassa vain ani harvoin kansainvälisesti ymmärretyllä tavalla: Israelin vetäytymisenä vuoden 1967 rajoille ja molemminpuolisiin hyökäämättömyystakuisiin sitoutumisena. Barak ei näin ollen tarkenna, millaisesta kahden valtion ratkaisusta hän puhuu. Vetäytymisestä kansainvälisesti tunnustetuille rajoille vai osittaisesta, Israelin itsensä määrittämästä näennäisvetäytymisestä?

    :: Länsirannan laiton haltuunotto ja siirtokuntalaisten harjoittama ilkivalta jatkuvat. Ha’aretz: ”Some 300 olive trees belonging to Palestinians were uprooted on the night between Monday and Tuesday in groves near the village of Mihmas, close to the illegal outpost of Migron. Mihmas residents blamed settlers for the attack and said this was the third time the settlers had uprooted trees in the area.”

    Israelin äärioikeisto jatkaa Itä-Jerusalemin laitonta haltuunottoa. EU ja Yhdysvallat eivät edes tuo esiin taloudellisen painostuksen vaihtoehtoa. Haaretz: ”Settler groups are pushing to evict two more Palestinian families from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, part of a wider program to demolish Palestinian homes in the area to make way for 200 housing units designated solely for Jews.”
